Now Trending on Facebook

In this new feature, I’d like to share some of the issues and articles that are blowing up the Daily Item’s Facebook page each week.

We get a lot of good interaction on the page, and I’d like to share with you some highlights for this, the week of July 28:

  • Gilberton Police Chief suspended: People are drawn to this story about a man who posted some violent Youtube videos, but said it’s all to showcase his love of the Constitution. One of the best comments came from Faith Buckles: “I think it’s unnerving that some one with that attitude toward people would be allowed to “serve and protect” them at all. Should have been fired.”
  • PennDOT spends $19,000 on bridge lines: People are also up in arms about the $19,000 buffer on the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge – many thought it would be a high divider, including Elizabeth Ann Garrison, who said:  “It was a waste of time and money. They need to put a permanent barrier across the bridge.”
  • People also supported the large sentence given to Cleveland kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro, applauding the judge who gave him life in prison without parole plus 1,000 years
