Rain, rain – some photos

Last night some terrible storms passed through the area – and the sky was really dark and stormy.

It made for some good photos of the sky churning just before the deluge of rain hit. I think the fact that it was already getting dark out mixed with the darkness of the storm really caused the sky to get a menacing, dark look to it.

Here’s the view from my house:

A lot of people reveled in the beauty of the sky, as evidenced by these photos:

Do you have pictures from last night? Send them to me!

Daily Item Reader Photos, Spring Edition

There’s a definite spring in everyone’s step as spring is in the air!

The temperature has finally crawled above 50 and it’s time to celebrate with some spring-themed photos, courtesy of Daily Item readers.

Here’s my favorite springtime photos from the reader galleries:

Kudos to PennDOT

Too often I think we’re quick to criticize PennDOT for not plowing quick enough or leaving roads untidy.

But in terms of preparing for yesterday’s storm that wasn’t, PennDOT was all over it.

Photographer Rob Inglis and I traveled I80 yesterday and saw de-icer ready to go all down the highway:

So kudos to them for being prepared, and thank God we didn’t see ant major storm activity.

Know someone who deserves a shout-out in the Valley? Let me know!

Winter weather

Yesterday, on the way to and from an accident scene, photographer Rob Inglis and I were caught in the middle of the snowfall that blanketed the area yesterday morning.

The roads in northern Northumberland County were terrible!

Here a shot (Don’t worry – I wasn’t driving!)

Apparently, the roads in Snyder County were just as bad:

What were the roads like where you were? Any photos to share?

Snowy weekend

The Valley was hit by 3 to 5 inches on Saturday – and people were tweeting about it! Here’s some Twitter highlights and portraits of snow from around the region.

Snow progression

Here’s my attempt at some time lapse phtoography.

It shows the progression of the snow storm outside our office window on Market Street. I took photos beginning at 1 p.m. at about every half hour.

(Note: I had an early photo showing barely there snow, but accidentally deleted it – whoops!)

Anyway, enjoy - and send me your snow photos!
