You Might Hvae Missed It: Street of Shops

This Saturday, my mom and I were in the mood for some retail therapy (OK, it was me that needed the shopping trip, but that’s beside the point).

I didn’t necessarily feel like going to the mall, but didn’t know where else to get my shop on – so I suggested we try out a place I had heard of but never visited: The Street of Shops in Lewisburg.

We went and were so glad we did.

It was a fun afternoon of shopping for some unique and well-priced items in a cozy atmosphere. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been there before with my love of shopping.

We did some early Christmas shopping and I got a picture to hang in my house – I spent $14 and my mom spent $20. You can’t beat that.

Anyway, it just goes to show you that even as long as we’ve lived here, you can still discover new and fun things in your own backyard. I know we’ll definitely be going back to visit again!

Any hidden gems that you like to visit in the Valley? Share them with me!

Apples to apples in Lewisburg

I have some tree-related questions that maybe you readers can help me with.

Last week, photographer Rob Inglis and I were in downtown Lewisburg when we spotted this tree (above).

What was particularly noteworthy about the tree is it appears to be smaller crab apples on the bottom and larger green apple/crab apples on top. Neither of us had seen anything like that before.

Is it normal for apple trees to be like that? My parents have a crab apple tree, but it’s only the smaller red ones. I’ve never seen a “split” one.

Anyone out there know? What’s going on in downtown Lewisburg?!

Yummy Yogurt coming to Lewisburg!

This morning, on my travels through Lewisburg, I passed This sign which made me so happy:

Sweet Frog is coming to Lewisburg! Yessss!

Let me explain, Sweet Frog is part of the latest dessert trend, the yogurt bar where you top your yogurt with all the toppings you want and pay by weight.

The toppings include just about anything you could want to put on yogurt, from gummies to candy to sauces.

My fiancé and I first tried one in Arizona and now we have my whole family hooked.

Now, I normally don’t get too hooked on trends, but I couldn’t resist this one, and am SO exited to see it hit the Valley.

One yogurt bar opened in Bloomsburg recently and now with this one, I’m hoping yogurt bars are here to stay!

Here’s to hoping Danville gets one next!

Some artsy feelings…

I know that I’m no good at art – I took Photography I in college and that was enough to teach me that I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body.

But this week I found myself taking several scenic photos just for fun. They’re from a bunch of places around the Valley – and I wanted to share them with someone.

Feel free to share some critiques with me – but try not to be too harsh.

This was the sunset near my home in Danville yesterday. I wish the power lines weren’t there – but hey, I also like my electricity.

Union County voting malfunction makes CNN.com

The video made by a Lewisburg resident showing the voting machine malfunction in Union County got national media attention: the malfunction was listed as part of  CNN.com’s list of voting snags.

Here’s the CNN article.

The mix-up also made Mother Jones’ list of voting snafus, which you can see here.

Heres my problem with their coverage of this: I wouldn’t say that it was voter suppression or some form of hacking as Mother Jones seems to suggest, it seems like a voting machine malfunction at its purest form.

Apparently, the membranes of many machines were malfunctioning and needed to be recalibrated.

It happened in Perry County as CNN says and in York County as well.

It seems like this was a technical issue that could have been putting votes for any candidate, it just happened to be calibrated to go from Obama to Romney.

What do you think?
