You Might Hvae Missed It: Street of Shops

This Saturday, my mom and I were in the mood for some retail therapy (OK, it was me that needed the shopping trip, but that’s beside the point).

I didn’t necessarily feel like going to the mall, but didn’t know where else to get my shop on – so I suggested we try out a place I had heard of but never visited: The Street of Shops in Lewisburg.

We went and were so glad we did.

It was a fun afternoon of shopping for some unique and well-priced items in a cozy atmosphere. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been there before with my love of shopping.

We did some early Christmas shopping and I got a picture to hang in my house – I spent $14 and my mom spent $20. You can’t beat that.

Anyway, it just goes to show you that even as long as we’ve lived here, you can still discover new and fun things in your own backyard. I know we’ll definitely be going back to visit again!

Any hidden gems that you like to visit in the Valley? Share them with me!

You Might Have Missed It: Wrestling billboard in Milton

I saw this driving to an assignment in Milton:

Note: my photo for whatever reason didn’t want to upload, so this one is from the Milton District’s newsletter. But it was indeed a very similar picture.

It’s a billboard honoring Milton’s two state medal winners, both Ryans.

Not only is the billboard cool, but I got to cover the pep rally welcoming them home from the state tournament.

I have never met such gracious and gnaw winners.

They deserve every accolade they get.

So kudos to them. And drive down Mahoning Street to check it out.

You Might Have Missed It: Shikellamy Overlook

This morning, I’m writing from my first time at the Shikellamy Overlook.

I’ve lived in the Valley most of my life and never got here. And I’m sorry it took me this long to find it.

It’s beautiful up here, and here’s the proof:

On a non-rainy day make sure you get here.

You Might Have Missed It: North Shore Railroad headquarters

I love old-fashioned architecture, especially some that tells a story.

The North Shore Railroad company headquarters on Priestley Avenue in Northumberland does just that:

The railroad station building is a great reminder of the region’s logistics and transportation roots, while emphasizing that they are still very much a part of our modern economy.

You can check out more details later this month in our Commerce section, but logitics and transportation in the area is booming. – but many don’t realize  the NSRR headquarters are there, tucked beside the river in Northumberland.

If you love railroad architecture, this is a must see.

You may have missed: The Moose Milton

I’m starting a new feature here called “You may have missed.”

I want to showcase small details of places in the Valley that, well, you may have missed.

My first entry is from the Moose building on Front Street in Milton.

I never noticed the details on the top of the building.

Here’s a photo:

Very regal looking, and adds a nice touch to the landscape.
